Where in the World is Smokey?

Traveling through the American Southwest

Charlie Carr is a junior majoring in geography at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. He sent these photos from a family vacation through the western U.S. in August 2008. The first is from the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona; the second is from Monument Valley on the border of Utah and Arizona; the last is from the Grand Canyon.

Charlie especially enjoyed seeing the Petrified Forest, which he had wanted to visit ever since he saw photos of it in a school textbook. The highlight for his dad was seeing Monument Valley where so many Westerns were filmed.
