Where in the World is Smokey?

Visiting Dunottar Castle in Scotland

Jennifer Spirko is a thesis/dissertation consultant at UT Knoxville. She sent these photos from a conference she attended in June 2008.

"I was in Scotland to present a paper at the international academic Electronic Theses and Dissertations Conference. The conference was held at the Robert Gordon University in beautiful Aberdeen, and when it was over, my daughter and I ventured to the nearby town of Stonehaven, which, like Aberdeen, lies on the coast of the North Sea. It was a cool and misty day (more like February or early March for us Tennesseans), but the mist made for a very 'Scottish' scene as we walked along the sea cliffs to the beautiful ruin of Dunottar Castle.

"The woman who works at the castle taking tickets said it sounded very 'glamorous' (her word) to be from Tennessee, and she was impressed that I am from near the place where Dolly Parton is from. I thought it was fascinating that someone who works in a seaside medieval castle thinks we are glamorous!

"The picture is me near the sea cliff about 2 miles outside Stonehaven with Dunottar Castle behind me. The picture was taken by my 8-year-old daughter Hannah."
