Where in the World is Smokey?

Visiting with Friends in Ohio

Renee Porier graduated from UT Knoxville in 1994 with a bachelor's degree in sociology, and again in 1998 with a master's degree in leadership studies in education. She now lives in Knoxville and is employed by UT's Office of the Registrar.

She wrote: "I recently visited with Matt, Abby and Claire Yost (Abby is a former UT employee) in Wooster, Ohio, which is home to the College of Wooster and the Wooster Paint Brush Company. Wooster is the county seat of Wayne County, which was founded in 1796, and was at the time the third county established in the Northwest Territory, which would later become Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.

"Wayne County is surrounded by Amish farms and one-room school houses, as it rests in the same region as the largest Amish community in the United States."
