Rachel Ranft received her bachelor's degree in wildlife and fisheries from UT Knoxville in 2002. She is now a wildlife biologist and director of the Blanco River Project for the Nature Conservancy.
"Smokey and I were working on a prescribed fire on a private ranch near Austin, Texas, with The Nature Conservancy. Prescribed fire helps to promote native plant growth, reduces shrubs -- especially ashe-juniper, a prolific native -- and reduces wildfire potential."
